Finding the correct YouTube live video ID

YouTube concurrent viewer data belongs to a specific live video, not simply to a channel handle. The video ID is the value after v= in a watch URL or the short identifier in a youtu.be link.

Setup

  1. Open the public live watch page and copy its video ID.
  2. Paste only the ID into the configurator and verify the preview while the stream is live.
  3. Add the generated URL as an OBS Browser Source.

Best practices

  • Create a new URL when the channel schedules a new video with a different ID.
  • Do not describe hidden or unavailable statistics as zero audience.
  • Check the public watch page rather than YouTube Studio when testing.

Troubleshooting

  • A scheduled premiere may not expose concurrent viewers until it begins.
  • Owner settings can hide the value from the API.
  • An ID copied with extra query parameters will not resolve correctly.
