Setup guide

Making a ticker readable instead of distracting

A ticker works for schedules, sponsor disclosures, rotating announcements, and event instructions. The goal is repeated comprehension: viewers should be able to join mid-scroll and understand the message without waiting through a long block of text.

Setup

  1. Write one concise message and choose a separator that clearly marks the repeat.
  2. Adjust duration after previewing the ticker at the final source width.
  3. Copy the URL into OBS and crop the source to the intended banner height.

Best practices

  • Use sentence case and short clauses; all-capital paragraphs are harder to scan.
  • Make sponsorship language unambiguous and keep it on screen long enough to read.
  • Test the loop at 30 and 60 FPS if the motion appears uneven.

Troubleshooting

  • Clipped text usually means the Browser Source height is smaller than the selected font.
  • A ticker that appears stationary may have an extremely long cycle duration.
  • Disable custom CSS in OBS while testing to rule out conflicting transforms.
