Creating QR codes viewers can actually scan

On-stream QR codes are most reliable when they lead to a short HTTPS URL, remain still, and include clear contrast around all four sides. A code that looks stylish in the preview may become unscannable after video compression.

Setup

  1. Paste the final destination URL and verify it opens on a separate device.
  2. Use dark modules on a light background with a generous quiet zone.
  3. Add the Browser Source to OBS, display it at its intended size, and scan the encoded broadcast preview.

Best practices

  • Include a human-readable destination or call to action beside the code.
  • Avoid placing the code over moving gameplay or animated backgrounds.
  • Use campaign parameters carefully and disclose affiliate or sponsored destinations.

Troubleshooting

  • If scanning fails, increase the source size before changing colors.
  • Long URLs create denser codes; use a trusted short first-party redirect if possible.
  • Mirroring, perspective transforms, and aggressive sharpening can damage the pattern.
