Testing donation alerts before sharing a link
Donation alerts combine a private stream key, provider webhook, and OBS display URL. A successful test must cover the full path from the provider event to the browser source, including amount formatting, message length, animation, and sound levels.
Setup
- Connect the supported donation provider and copy the webhook address into its event settings.
- Add the private overlay URL to OBS and keep both URLs out of public screenshots.
- Run a test alert and verify text wrapping, audio monitoring, and replay behavior.
Best practices
- Treat donor messages as user-generated content and keep moderation options available.
- Do not imply donations are refundable or tax-deductible unless that is actually true.
- Set an alert duration that does not cover important gameplay for too long.
Troubleshooting
- A provider test that never arrives usually indicates the webhook or stream key was copied incorrectly.
- If audio is silent, check OBS browser-source audio routing and monitoring settings.
- Long names and currencies should be tested because they can change card width.
